Project
Summary:
As part of the overall improvement program for the Palmetto Expressway, the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT), District 6, has begun two separate but related projects at the SW 24 th Street
(Coral Way) and SW 8 th Street (Tamiami Trail) interchanges. These projects included the following:

Reconstruction
and widening of the Palmetto Expressway (SR 826), including
the addition of one general
use lane and one (northbound and southbound) lane.

Reconstruction
of all ramps, and the access ramp bridge to Coral
Way over the
Coral Gables Canal.

Reconstruction
of the Palmetto Expressway (SR 826) bridge over Coral Way
and widening of mainline bridge
over
SW 8th
Street.
-
Reconstruction
(relocation) of the pedestrian overpass over the southbound
Coral Way exit ramp.
-
Addition
of bulkheads and noise walls along
the Palmetto Expressway (SR 826).
-
Addition
of bridges over SW
8th Street
for access ramps to and from the
Palmetto Expressway (SR 826).
-
Reconfiguration
of access ramps
to and from the Palmetto Expressway (SR 826)
and widening to include shoulder widths.
-
Widening
of ramp bridge over Tamiami Canal to northbound
Palmetto Expressway
(SR 826).
-
Widening
and reconstruction of over 2100 feet of
SW
8th Street and lower it
under the Palmetto Expressway (SR 826).
Relocation of a 30” water
main under eastbound SW 8th Street.

Construct
drainage improvements, detention ponds,
overhead sign structures, roadway
lighting, and new traffic signals at SW 8th and SW 24th
Streets.
